PR leaders remain calm amidst PAS' non-cooperation

GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders seemed to remain calm over the decision of PAS Permatang Pauh division not to support the by-election campaign there.

PAS vice president Salahudin Ayub said PAS only accepted the decision taken by the party's central committee which was to assist PKR to defend the seat.

He dismissed suggestions the pull-out would have an impact and expressed his confidence things would work out in the spirit of PR cooperation.

"Instructions have been given and manpower has been roped in from states in the north to help in campaigning," he told theSun when contacted.

Meanwhile Penang PR secretariat member Wong Hon Wai expressed his optimism the matter would be resolved come nomination day on April 25.

He said there were many contradictory statements but added that as far as he was concerned, Penang PAS leaders have pledged to assist in Permatang Pauh.

"We have good working relationships and all PR leaders attended state PR Council meetings this year," the Air Itam assemblyman added.

State DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief Ng Wei Aik nonetheless pointed out the issue was an internal matter for PAS to resolve.

"There are many contradicting positions take by their leaders, I think they should try to solve it between them," the Tanjong MP told theSun.

The division decided to make good their threat of withdrawing their support after a three-hour meeting on Wednesday night.

Division chairman Omar Hassan had said the division would not contribute unless PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail retracts and apologises for her remarks over hudud.
