Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Wong Hon Wai says history has proven that independent parties cannot survive. It has always been a battle between two blocs since 1976. The voters have largely gone for either BN or PR.
A political party, especially one that has yet to make its presence felt, will find it tough to survive a battle like the general election, the Ayer Itam assemblyman says.
Malaysian voters opt for organisations that they know and have a track record, says Wong, adding that it is a big risk for voters to put their faith in the unknown.
Furthermore, political parties need huge a lot of funds to take part in elections. In the early 1970s, it was a different scenario because the country was relatively young, and the voters were willing to accept new ideas from youngparties, such as Gerakan, he says.
