EVERYONE’S eyes were glued to the open stage when a group of 55 orang asli put on a captivating performance in six languages at the Penang state Christmas Open House 2016.
With painted faces and wearing tribal headgear and beaded accessories, the group sang and danced to rhythmic music played by their band, which included young boys playing the cendong, a musical instrument of the Jahai tribe.
The group, with members aged between six and 80 years, represented the DOA Service Centre from Tasik Temenggor, Perak.
They mesmerised the thousands of guests at the event in Fort Cornwallis, George Town, on Sunday.

Occupying the entire stage and area below, the group delivered Christian praise songs in Mandarin, English, Malay and in the Temiar, Jahai and Murut tribal languages.
Event organising committee chairman Rev Hwa Jen even pulled in several guests to dance alongside the group..
Among the guests dancing with the orang asli group was tourist Kirill Belitskiy, 34, from Siberia, Russia.

He said he was fascinated by Malaysia’s culture, food and traditional dances.
“I’m going to extend my stay in George Town by another week. I love Indian vegetarian food,” said the businessman, who travels the globe on holiday for six months annually.
Penang Bahnhof Youth Centre volunteer Pastor Thoo Sook Lin, who supervised the orang asli group, said they were also attending a 12-day Christmas camp at the Peniel Christian Centre in Seberang Jaya, which ends this Sunday.
After the show, guests made a beeline for the array of dishes and drinks served under a canopy.
