Wong Hon Wai Menuntut Menteri Perpaduan Memohon Maaf Atas Insiden Baju "Keluarga Malaysia" Dibuat Di Bangladesh

 Malaysiakini / 26 November 2021

"Saya cadangkan menteri perpaduan negara memohon maaf atas insiden baju-T Keluarga Malaysia," kata Wong ketika mencelah.

Wong Hon Wai Asks About The Status Of Malaysia's Participation In The RCEP

 The Star / 25 Nov 2021

M'sia to gain over RM40mil in export revenue if it ratifies RCEP by year end, says Azmin Ali

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia stands to gain an increase of more than RM40bil in export revenue if it ratifies the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) by year end, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

"Based on a study by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), the nation will see export revenue increase by RM44bil a year if the RCEP is ratified by the end of this year.

"Apart from this, local industries will also benefit from wider market access and tariff concessions," the International Trade and Industry Minister said when replying a supplementary question raised by Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun (PN-Beaufort) in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Nov 25).

Azizah wanted to know what the losses would be for the nation if it failed to ratify RCEP on time.

Azmin said that it is imperative that Malaysia ratifies RCEP, as it would be a catalyst for economic recovery in Iight of adverse effects of the pandemic on the economy.

"During the recent Asean Summit about two weeks ago, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who represented the country, gave a commitment to Asean that we will ratify RCEP by the end of December," he added.

Azmin noted that RCEP will come into force 60 days after Jan 1 next year, after at least six Asean members and three friends of the Asean free trade zone, submit their ratification instruments to the Asean secretariat.

As of Nov 2, he said that 10 nations namely Singapore, China, Japan, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia, have ratified the RCEP.

Asked by Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) if there was sufficient time to amend the necessary laws to allow Malaysia to ratify the RCEP on time, Azmin said the matter is currently being finalised by the Attorney General's Chambers.

"It will then be brought to the House for approval by the end of this year before the government submits the ratification instrument to the Asean secretariat," he added.

Wong lamented the country's slow progress in ratifying RCEP when several Asean nations had already done so.

Wong Hon Wai Sangat Dukacita Kerana Kerajaan Enggan Jawab Soalan Yang Penting

 Sinar Harian / 25 November 2021

Dakwa timbalan menteri enggan jawab, Dewan Rakyat kecoh

“Saya tanya soalan harga sayur, ayam naik. Timbalan menteri enggan jawab. Itulah sikap timbalan menteri, sedangkan soalan ini begitu penting.

“Saya sangat dukacita kerana kerajaan enggan jawab soalan yang cukup penting. Kalau berani jawab sekarang,” katanya.

"Draf pindaan akta terbabit sedang diperhalusi Jabatan Peguam Negara.

Beliau turut memaklumkan, nilai eksport negara dijangka bertambah sebanyak RM44 bilion setahun apabila RCEP berkuat kuasa.

Wong Hon Wai Wanted The Ministry To Had Taken To Stem These Price Increases

 FMT / November 24,2021

Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) also spoke on the price of vegetables when debating on the allocations for the ministry for next year.

He said consumer associations and the public had complained about vegetable prices surging by as high as 200%.

For instance, the price of cauliflower had doubled from RM7 to RM14 per kg, and other vegetables including broccoli, cabbage and red and green chillies had also gone up in price.

Similarly, the price of chicken had also increased from RM8 to RM10 per kg.

Wong wanted the ministry to state the measures it had taken to stem these price increases.

The ministry is expected to give its reply when it wraps up its debate on the Supply Bill.

Wong Hon Wai Wanted To Know What Steps The Government Was Taking To Resolve The Rising Vegetables Price Issue

 FMT / November 24, 2021

MPs want govt to act on rising veg prices

One MP says there have been drastic increases in the price of vegetables.

KUALA LUMPUR: Several MPs have brought up the issue of the rising prices of vegetables, fertilisers and pesticides and wanted to know what steps the government was taking to resolve the issue.

Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) said he had received many complaints about the drastic rise in prices of vegetables, such as cabbage from RM7 to RM16 per kg and “sawi pendek” now going for RM9 from RM3 per kg previously.

“Not only did the price of vegetables rise by 200%, the price of chicken has also risen. Before this, it was RM8 per kg but now it’s over RM10 per kg.

“The price of grade A eggs has also risen from RM10 to RM12 a tray,” he said during the debate on the Supply Bill 2022 at the committee stage for the agriculture and food industries ministry (MAFI) at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Sabri Azit (PAS-Jerai) asked the government to take immediate action on the rising prices of imported agriculture fertiliser and pesticides to reduce the burden of farmers.

“The rise in fertiliser and pesticide prices is too great and we urge the government to help farmers by monitoring the market price. Pesticides that were RM185 last year now cost RM330,” he said.

A total of 12 MPs took part in the debate session and 16 more are expected to continue the debate tomorrow, in addition to the winding-up by the ministry.

The ministry has been allocated an estimated RM3.3 billion for operating expenditure under Budget 2022.

Besides MAFI, the debate and winding-up sessions at the committee level for the rural development ministry and the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry are scheduled for tomorrow.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting will resume tomorrow.

Wong Hon Wai Questioned Whether Putrajaya Intends To Review The Number of Foreign Missions

 FMT / November 23, 2021

Will Putrajaya review ‘huge’ number of foreign missions abroad, asks MP

The foreign ministry has been allocated RM868 million in Budget 2022, up from RM778 million previously.

KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition MP today questioned whether Putrajaya intends to review the number of foreign missions it has worldwide, saying it was “relatively huge”, when compared to the country’s Asean neighbours.

Wong Hon Wai (PH-Bukit Bendera) said there were 111 foreign missions in 85 countries.

He said this was more than what Singapore and Thailand had, with the island republic having 47 offices in 31 countries. He did not provide the figures for Thailand.

“Are we going to look into a strategic realignment and maybe focus on key areas such as ones that involve our business or strategic partners?” he said when debating the foreign ministry’s 2022 Supply Bill allocation at the committee stage.

Wong Hon Wai.

Wong had earlier noted that there was an increase in allocations for the foreign ministry.

A total of RM868 million had been earmarked for the ministry under Budget 2022, compared to RM778 million under the previous federal budget.

He also questioned the role of a special envoy, which came with a ministerial rank.

Earlier this month, it was reported that MIC president SA Vigneswaran had been appointed special envoy to South Asia.

In September, it was announced that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing will continue in their respective roles as special envoys to the Middle East and China.

Former human resources minister Richard Riot Jaem was also appointed a special envoy for East Asia.

“How effective are they?” Wong asked.
