Secondary school students from the Air Itam Constituency Level Small Scholarship Handout Programme received their aid at the Caring Society Complex on Jalan Utama on Sunday.
Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai officiated the ceremony, which saw a total of RM44,160 being disbursed amongst the 56 students.
Those from Form 1 to Form 3 received RM600 each, while students in Form 4 and 5 received RM840.
“The recipients are chosen based on the financial status of their families. There are five different secondary schools in my constituency,” said Wong.
He also hoped that the students would help the needy in return when they are successful in their own ways.
“Don’t just take, but also remember to give,” added Wong
Meanwhile, Form 5 student Muhammad Danial Irfan was grateful to the state government because the aid would cushion the financial burden of his family.
“I am looking forward to buying necessary school materials and books to assist in my progress,” said the Tunku Abdul Rahman Technical School student.
It is estimated that 1,590 students from 122 schools will benefit from the state-wide programme, which provides RM1.22million a year for this purpose. – July 9, 2015.
