GEORGE TOWN: Several individuals have lodged police reports claiming they were cheated in a gold scheme.
Rahmat Kamaruddin, 50, said he began investing in September last year after being promised 10% dividends every fortnight.
He said he bought gold at higher than market prices due to the purported promise and even roped in friends to invest.
Rahmat said he and 10 of his friends invested about RM300,000 into the scheme and received dividends in October until the middle of the same month last year.
He said the returns were not fulfilled beginning Oct 20 and his friends and him have yet to see their money until now.
Rahmat said he tried to contact the person on two different handphone numbers but was not successful.
"I feel cheated," he said, adding a police report was lodged on Oct 31 last year during a press conference today together with Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.
Representing another 17 victims was Abdul Wahab S. Mohd Mydin who made a similar complaint.
He said they bought into the scheme in 2014 and that 16 police reports have been lodged since June that year.
"I hope police will take action," he added.
Wong meanwhile reminded the public to be careful in investing their money.
"I hope police can intensify their investigations," he added.
