Chung Ling Private High School students checking out The Star’s Step Up and NiE pullouts after the presentation at the school.
“We were happy to help the schools after their teachers told us the pullouts were really helpful in their teaching and learning process.
“We will be happier when the schools do well especially in the English subject,” said Ramkarpal after handing over the sponsorship to Star Media Group audience management senior executive Eric Stanley at the Chung Ling Private High School in Air Itam on Friday.
Rayer said they were merely conti-nuing the tradition of late Karpal Singh who always stressed on English usage and education.
Chung Ling principal Ng Jooi Seah said the school achieved a 100% pass rate in the 2015 Cambridge examination.
“Our school has also been receiving 100% passing rate for the English subject in major examinations since 2010,” he added.
The other schools benefiting from the sponsorship are Chung Ling High School, SMJK Chung Hwa Confucian, SMK Hamid Khan, SMK Datuk Haji Mohd Nor Ahmad, SJK (T) Subramaniya Barathee and SJK (C) Kong Min Cawangan Satu.
The NiE pullout, endorsed by the Education Ministry, is an English language resource for teachers to teach English in classrooms using authentic situations.
The pullout, published every Wednesday, consists of 33 issues. Three major segments –- NiE English, NiE Literature and NiE Life —- give students a comprehensive and organised learning framework.
Step Up is a 24-page bilingual supplement, under the NiE programme, to enhance English literacy among primary school pupils.
The pullout is published on alternate Tuesdays for Bahasa Malaysia translations and alternate Thursdays for Chinese translations.
