Halt to poultry farmers’ subsidy proves public policy failure, says MP
PETALING JAYA: Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai has criticised the government’s recent decision to stop the subsidy to chicken breeders, calling it a clear evidence of public policy failure.
“The government should channel the RM729 million originally allocated to chicken breeders to help the 5.56 million B40 families and M40 families combined.
“Each family will receive roughly RM130,” Wong said in a statement.
Wong also said the government needs to utilise the prosperity tax collected to set up a Food Security Stabilisation Fund and to increase the stockpile for certain food items.
On top of that, he said, the government should come out with a comprehensive economic response plan after the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war and partial embargo by the European Union on Russian oil.
“These two issues will have a severe impact on the international oil price and food security issues,” he said.
