Scrap Tajuddin’s appointment as ambassador to Indonesia, says MP

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob must scrap controversial MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s appointment as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia, said a DAP MP who added that Tajuddin lacks the necessary diplomatic skills required for the job.

According to Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, Tajuddin has proven to be unfit for the role of ambassador following a tell-all press conference the latter held yesterday (June 27) as well as his previous conduct in Parliament.

“The role of public officers should be based on eligibility, experience and suitability of character instead of political considerations,” Wong was reported as saying by FMT.

Wong further pointed out that the prime minister should not use his position to please those who supported him and yet were ill-fitted for the role.

Ismail Sabri had previously brushed aside criticism over Tajuddin’s appointment, saying that the latter’s appointment had been approved by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

In defending his party man Ismail Sabri also said that the former UMNO election director was a “seasoned and experienced politician”.

At a press conference yesterday Tajuddin claimed that some 130 UMNO division chiefs had wanted Zahid to step down from his post back in 2020, adding that there was a memorandum within the party for Zahid to step down.

The UMNO disciplinary board today said that it had yet to receive an official report regarding Tajuddin following allegations that the Pasir Salak MP had made against party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

UMNO disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Dr Zulhasnan Rafique told FMT that party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan would notify the board of any disciplinary action to be taken against UMNO leaders or members.

“The UMNO disciplinary board is an internal investigation body that will only act when it receives an official report or complaint,” he told the online portal.

Last week Tajuddin was removed from the UMNO Supreme Council for being too critical of the party. – June 28, 2022
